Supporting staff in their mid-career years?

If you have team members who are feeling lost, stuck, disillusioned or suddenly thrust into uncertainty in their mid career, we can help! Many people face uncertainty as they move into the second half of their working life, when assumptions they had previously held about work no longer seem to stack up. Supporting staff in late-career decisions?

A man with great hair and wearing a grey jacket and red and white striped shirt smiles to someone off camera. A group of people are visible at cafe tables in the background.

If you have team members in the later years of their career or work journey who are wondering about what’s next, we’re here to help. Our coaching and programs make no assumptions about when, how or even if your team member will choose to leave work. But in later career it helps to think through options and be intentional about the years ahead. So whether your team member decides to stay on in the workforce, shift gears or step into the next phase of life, our late career offerings can help make that decision easier. Connect a team member with dedicated 1:1 coaching

Who is behind Life Navigation Lab?

Life Navigation Lab has been created by Mel Lambert, an Irish woman living and working on Kaurna Land in South Australia. Mel is a qualified coach certified by the International Coaching Federation and behavioural coach with Tiny Habits® Academy. Mel has been designing and delivering peer-to-peer coaching and career/life transition programs since 2014. The best way to get to know her is to set up a time for a chat!

How do I know what program to choose?

We have tried to keep what we offer simple, flexible and affordable so you can find something that works for you and your team members. If you are supporting staff who are stuck or unclear in their mid-career journey or who are between jobs, then the Career Transition Lab is ideal as it allows them to explore the options before them with both peer and 1:1 coaching support. If you’re looking for support for staff in late career and perhaps starting to think about the timing and circumstances around leaving the workforce, you may find the Life Beyond Work program to be a better fit as this focuses specifically on decision-making about whether to stay or leave the workforce and what might come next.

Can I book 1:1 career coaching for my team member?

Yes! We offer 1:1 coaching instead of group programs if you think that will be a better fit. This can also be useful if you feel that one session may be all that is needed. If you are looking for leadership and executive coaching, we can also deliver that under our organisational coaching brand, Think Human. Get in touch to find out more about our rates and offerings.

Why do you take a peer group approach to career decision-making?

While you can access 1:1 coaching through Life Navigation Lab, the heart of the Lab is small peer groups. Times of decision, uncertainty and transition can be lonely and staff in this position can feel like no-one else ‘gets it’. When they join one of our programs they get access to a group of peers who are in a time of change and uncertainty themselves. The peer-to-peer inspiration, support and encouragement this offers are key elements of the value and impact we offer.

Why do you offer 6 months of support?

Periods of decision, uncertainty and transition can be unpredictable, but they also don’t last forever! When you sign a team member up for a program or course, they get access to 6 months of ‘office hours’ support which allows them time to explore, reflect, connect, experiment and check back in on their career decision-making journey. Most people have a shorter period where they are actively engaged, and a longer time when they touch base again, as and when they need it. We also have a few peer-led online and in-person networks which operate informally around Life Navigation Lab which they are welcome to join if they align with their interests.

Do you offer any subsidised places?

Here at Life Navigation Lab we want to make sure that career decision-making support is available to people from all walks of life, backgrounds and circumstances. In fact, often it’s when life gets tough that this support is most critical! We believe our employer-funded rates are as low as anything comparable you’ll find in the market, and offer a lower rate for not-for-profits. If your staff are self-funding we offer a sliding fee scale so that they can choose to pay what they can afford. However, if affordability is still an issue get in touch as we can occasionally offer more heavily subsidised places.
