Reflecting on the Career Transition Lab, 18 months on

One of the previous participants of our Career Transition Lab recently got in touch to share her progress. I asked if she’d write it up as a blog post to share with others who might be wondering if the program is for them. So, here are Amy’s thoughts and reflections, 18 months on.

Do you dare to stay out? Do you dare to go in?

How much can you lose? How much can you win?

I am beyond grateful to have completed the Life Navigation Lab mid-career program and find myself in a better position, personally and professionally, as a result.

I undertook ‘Navigating Career Transitions’; to be able to carefully consider moving from PAYG to Self Employed as a Mortgage Broker; wondering if I’d be happier, more successful, more balanced and more rewarded in all ways, by making the change.

I was dissatisfied with my current position, loving the job and the nature of the role (being a Mortgage Broker was never in question), however the input and energy I was expending did not match the income and lifestyle I desired at almost 50. I was pretty keen on making the change.

With the expert guidance and facilitation of the skilled and ever kind and patient Mel Lambert, as well as workshoping with 5 other diverse and interesting like-minded and confused(!) humans, the absolutely relevant content and conversation held a lens up to many elements that I hadn’t considered when thinking about career transition.

After thoughtful and considered content and the space to reflect, I came to realise that I actually did really love working for my current employer and brand. I uncovered the pain points in my role and I was brave enough to change them.

In the 9 months since completing the program I have been rewarded with an excellent pay rise and my company has recruited an assistant for me. It turns out that by staying and not changing the structure of my career, I am happier, more successful, more balanced and more rewarded in all ways!
